Tuesday marks 10 years since Charleston church shooting

On June 17, 2015, nine people were killed by a gunman at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
Tuesday marks 10 years since a gunman opened fire at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Nine people were killed and one more was injured during a Bible study at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

There were five survivors.

The shooter, Dylann Roof, who was 21 years old at the time, has now been convicted of murder and hate crimes. Roof remains behind bars as he faces the death penalty, despite several attempts to appeal.

A memorial park to remember the oldest victim of this tragedy was opened to the public back in 2022.
