Leading Democrat Breaks With Party, Voices Support For Trump’s Iran Strike

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) broke from many in his party by openly supporting President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the move “correct” and thanking the U.S. military for its execution. His remarks, posted on X, reflect ongoing divisions within Congress over the military action. While pro-Israel Democrats and many Republicans supported the operation, others voiced concern over whether the President had the constitutional authority to act without Congressional approval. Some Republicans also worry that Trump’s decision could alienate anti-interventionist MAGA supporters, as he has previously campaigned against foreign entanglements.

Lawmakers across both parties are now pressing for more clarity on the strategic plan moving forward and the risks of potential Iranian retaliation, especially via proxy militias or sleeper cells targeting U.S. interests at home and abroad. CIA Director John Ratcliffe

is expected to brief the full Senate on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) introduced a resolution to prohibit U.S. involvement in Iran, and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) plans to force a Senate vote later in the week to debate further military engagement.
